Mechanical Features

  1. Unitized Construction . . . each Uni-Tunnel section is factory assembled to include the air plenum, fans, coil, defrost spray headers and conveyor section. All parts are factory assembled for an exact fit. Field construction time is minimized.
  2. Variable Speed Drives . . . Each belt has its own individually controllable drive. The belt speeds can be adjusted to optimize the retention time required on each belt. Small units use DC-SCR drives. Larger units are variable frequency AC or hydraulic drives.
  3. Centrifugal Fans . . . The Uni-Tunnel is equipped with centrifugal fans that deliver a consistent air volume through a wide range of static pressures. This performance gives deeper fluidized beds and longer times between defrosts.
  4. Air Plenum - Defrost Water Pan . . . The air plenum makes up the main support for the Uni-Tunnel section. It is made of a hot dipped galvanized structure with sheet metal components of aluminum. Each fan section is baffled separately which means that individual fans can be shut down during light loading without affecting the performance of the other fans.
  5. All Aluminum Plate-Fin Coils . . . The heavy-duty, industrial coils are arranged with wide-open fin spacing on the air inlet side. This gives a large area for ice accumulation preventing frost from stopping the air flow, and greatly extends defrost times. The aluminum plate-fins are very cleanable and prevent accumulation of ice and product solids in the coil. Aluminum has excellent heat transfer qualities and special alloys provide corrosion protection. Ammonia or halocarbon refrigerant can be used. Grasso compressors and Evapco evaporative condensers are normally used.
  6. Bally Insulated Housing . . . Pre-fabricated 4" or 5" (101.6mm or 127mm) thick urethane insulated panels with a wide variety of finishes to suit the plant location. Outdoor construction can save valuable plant floor space. Exact factory fit of Bally panels means fast field construction. Bally panels can also be used for the cold-storage room for the storage of the frozen product.
  7. Belt Washer/Dryer . . . Each unit is equipped with a belt washer/dryer that can be used to continuously clean the first belt and prevent a build-up of ice or product debris in the mesh belt. The high velocity fan design has improved belt drying.
  8. Optional Loading Equipment . . . Side angle or straight-on loading shakers are available to match the Uni-Tunnel system. These shakers provide for even loading of the product across the belt.
  9. Conveyor . . . The system uses an all stainless steel, balanced weave, wire mesh conveyor. The belt is driven by cross rods that connect to the plated side chain drive. Side guards are stainless steel with UHMW product seals. All metal parts in contact with the product are stainless steel.
  10. Fiberglass Floor . . . Watertight floor of fiberglass gives an extremely durable finish, no rusty steel decks, no standing seams to trip workers. Finish gives bright sanitary appearance and good foot traction.
  11. Integrated Control System . . . A single control panel has all motor starters and conveyor controls. Digital readouts display retention time on both conveyors. Defrost controls and interlocks can be added.
