A Good Habit is… A Bad Habit is…
purchasing your tickets well in advance of the concert forgetting that you purchased tickets and requesting an exchange the following week
inviting friends to join you at the concert assuming your $200 per year donation will guarantee them seats next to your Gold Circle subscription seats
showering before you come to the concert putting on LOTS of aftershave/perfume/cologne after you shower
dragging your ‘sport-enthusiast’ husband to at least one concert per year allowing him to listen to the game on his Walkman during the performance
going out to dinner prior to the concert reliving dinner during the concert
arriving early to secure the best possible parking spot rushing out the door to beat the traffic while the last note is still reverberating in the hall
leaving your coat at the coat room rather than carrying it to your seat leaving your active cell phone in the coat pocket
silencing cell phones, pagers, watches and other electronic devices prior to the concert placing a call on your cell phone just as the lights go down for the concert to begin
unwrapping your soothing throat lozenge prior to the concert shouting out “WOO-HOO THAT’S BRISK!” when the mentho-lyptus kicks in
reading the program notes prior to the concert reading the program notes aloud to your spouse during the concert
engaging the musical experience in such a way that you are spiritually transported being transported to a place where you gyrate or squirm uncontrollably and moan out loud (not pretty)
closing your eyes to focus your attention on the aural experience allowing your lower jaw to go slack while “listening” to the concert (watch out for drool)
relaxing into the music and slipping into an altered state falling asleep and snoring through a beautiful and quiet concerto movement

applauding enthusiastically following the final movement of the piece

holding your ignited Bic lighter up during the slow movement of the piece, following the piece, or ANYTIME during the performance
shouting “BRAVO” following an exceptionally fine performance shouting “YEE-HAW” following an exceptionally fine performance (except Copland…maybe)
exposing your young children to the thrill of live music changing the child’s diaper in the aisle
supporting your local orchestra by becoming a volunteer usher as an usher, being the annoying person who is constantly making comments, humming, fidgeting, walking the aisle, tapping feet, hacking uncontrollably, unwrapping the LOUDLY wrapped lozenge, reading program notes ALOUD, exclaiming “Ooo,” “Ahh,” or “WOW! NOW THAT WAS SOMETHING!”
